Mature Skin Makeup Routine for Glowy Skin
For all my beautiful clients with mature skin feeling lost when it comes to finding the right makeup and knowing the right steps to apply them – this series of Wendy’s Wisdom is for you!
Embracing the beauty of mature skin means choosing products that give us more moisture and glow, opposed to those that are matte, cakey and drying.
Here is a makeup routine tailored specifically for those over the age of 65, that focuses on achieving a dewy, youthful glow.
- Hydrating Serum: Start your routine with a hydrating serum to ensures your skin is moisturized and primed for makeup application, providing a smooth canvas for the rest of your routine. Prepping the skin in general before applying makeup is so important, so don’t skip your skincare routine for mature skin! [LINK Skincare for Mature Skin blog]
- Dewy Balm: Follow up with a dewy balm to further lock in moisture. Dewy balms act as a primer to give skin more plumpness. Look for lightweight formulas that impart a healthy glow without feeling heavy or greasy.
Recommendations: Denessa Myricks Yummy Skin Balm, Bobby Brown Jones Road Miracle Balm
- Foundation: Opt for a lightweight, hydrating foundation that provides buildable coverage. You want to avoid matte formulas, as they can accentuate fine lines and wrinkles. For more minimal coverage, or if you don’t want to use foundation, try a tinted SPF that reduces discoloration without looking heavy and dry.
Recommendations: Glo Tinted SPF, Biofond by Gerda Spellman Cream Makeup, Glo Luminous Liquid Foundation Repechage
- Concealer: Apply concealer over your foundation and sparingly to areas that need extra coverage, such as under the eyes or over any blemishes. Blend gently with a damp makeup sponge or your fingertips for a seamless finish.
- Cream Blush: Cream blush is going to be your best option, opposed to a powder blush. (Are we starting to see a creamy trend?) Cream formulas blend effortlessly into the skin, giving you a youthful, lit-from-within glow. Smile and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending upwards towards your temples.
- Mineral Powder to Set: If all the previous layers of dewy products have you feeling like a glazed doughnut, you can set areas of your face with a with a light dusting of translucent mineral powder to minimize shine. Focus on the T-zone and areas prone to creasing, while leaving the rest of your face radiant and dewy.
- Highlighter: To create contour and accentuate natural features of your face, a cream highlighter can be applied to the high points above your blush, brow bones, and cupid’s bow. This will catch the light beautifully and add a subtle luminosity to your complexion.
- Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil: Define your eyes with a waterproof eyeliner pencil but only apply to the inner lash line. Not only do we want to avoid the harsh liner look, but this technique helps naturally lift the face.
Finish with a light layer of your preferred mascara and you’re set! With mature skin, we want to keep our makeup routine simple. Remember, the goal is to achieve a dewy, youthful glow that shines from within. Enjoy the process and let your natural beauty shine through!
Love,
Wendy
