Radiant Aging: The Best At-Home Skincare Routine for Mature Skin
As we age (gracefully, of course), our skin undergoes many changes like reduced collagen production and a slower cell turnover rate, which means it requires extra attention and care to maintain its radiance and “plumpness”, as I like to say. I understand the unique needs of women with mature skin, and I love teaching them how to fight signs of aging and keep looking youthful and glowing.
It all starts with your daily habits! Here is a comprehensive yet simple 5-step at-home skincare routine tailored to nourish and rejuvenate mature skin.
Step 1: Cleansing Oil
The first and crucial step is using a cleansing oil to remove all makeup and impurities. Mature skin tends to be drier, and a cleansing oil not only eliminates makeup but also hydrates the skin. Gently rinse and wipe away residue with a soft washcloth.
Step 2: Milky Cleanser
Follow up with a milky or creamy cleanser to ensure a thorough but gentle cleanse. You want to choose a cleanser with hydrating ingredients to maintain the skin’s moisture barrier like Repechage Vita Cura Cleansing Cream.
PRO TIP: For added benefit while cleansing, give yourself a facial massage to work the product into your skin. The massage will oxygenate the skin to get the blood flowing, which will help build collagen, increase the firmness, and create more glow, all while getting a deeper clean.
Step 3: Exfoliate (only a nighttime step)
Exfoliation is arguably the most important step for mature skin – so don’t skip it! It helps shed the top layer of dry, dead skin cells, promoting cell turnover. This eliminates any barriers that prevent moisture from being pushed into the skin. Two to four times a week with a gentle exfoliator is ideal to prevent over-exfoliation, which may irritate mature skin. One of my favorites is Michele Corley’s Enzyme Powder Mask.
Step 4: Serums
For mature skin, serums rich in hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, or seaweed extracts are the best options. These serums boost hydration, combat free radicals, and provide essential nutrients. The lightweight texture easily absorbs so those good, potent ingredients can penetrate deep into the skin.
Step 5: Rich Moisturizer
Finish your routine with a rich moisturizer, and one with seaweed ingredients is even better. A few of my favorites are the Repechage Vita Cura Triple Firming Cream or Glo Skin Beauty Restorative Cream. This final step locks in hydrating and serums helping to plump and firm complexion.
Step 6: Beauty oils
My favorite mature skin oil – as well as so many of my clients – is the Brighten & Restore Oil from Michele Corley and a game changer for mature skin. It gives antioxidant protection that helps stop pigmentation and mitigates damage from UV exposure. And a key ingredient – Bukuchiol Oil – helps significantly improve fine lines and wrinkles with consistent use. Apply liberally AM and PM and don’t forget your neck.
That’s it! After incorporating a dedicated skincare routine – coupled with high-quality products – I’m sure you’ll start to see a more even tone and texture and overall glow in just a few weeks. Try it out and let me know!
If you really want to amp up your overall skincare health, combine this routine with regular facial treatments in-studio with me and we can address any specific concerns and get you radiating even more!
P.S.
Like I mentioned, exfoliating may be one of the most important steps in your routine. So I’ll be diving deeper into that topic soon to explain the difference between physical and chemical exfoliation and why you should be using both to get your skin looking even more glowy and youthful.
